Create and join servers for your community, team, or friend group.
Low latency messages, voice calls and high quality video calls.
You can become a developer of senden yourself.

You can store your messages on your own hardware and host your own voice relay servers for the lowest latency.
Senden comes with a plugin ecosystem. You are free to modify your client and share your modifications with other people.
Senden is a messaging platform for communities: servers with text, voice and announcement channels, direct messages, and small group chats of up to 10 people. It is deliberately minimal, so you get the essentials without the clutter other platforms pile on.
Read the full answerSenden is free to use due to its low operating cost. An average user costs about €0.007 per month. We do all the heavy processing on your client. This lets us save on server costs. Instead of using your data to make money, we finance free users from paying users.
Read the full answerAny DM or group chat can be encrypted with AES-256-GCM. The key is generated on your device and never reaches our servers, so we only ever store ciphertext. You share and back up that key yourself, and if you lose it those messages are gone for good.
Read the full answerSenden stores data in Switzerland exclusively. We use Hetzners services in Finland for our load balancing proxies.
Read the full answerNo, senden does not sell your data to any entity.
Read the full answerUploaded media is checked for CSAM and other illegal imagery on our own infrastructure in Switzerland, never through a third-party scanning service. Every message, profile and server has a report button, and no single moderator can ban a user or close a report alone.
Read the full answerRequests have to arrive through the Swiss Dienst ÜPF, and foreign agencies additionally through mutual legal assistance. Valid requests we comply with in full. End-to-end encrypted messages can only be handed over as ciphertext, and data we never collected cannot be produced at all.

A paid plan around €4 per month is being considered for higher limits, but the free tier stays fully usable for messaging.
Read the full answerSome parts of senden, like our voice relay and later our federated server backends are open source. You can view their source code at any time (and contribute to it!). Components like the backend and web frontend will stay proprietary. The reason for this is that we do not want to create another matrix-like application, but rather a stable product.
Read the full answerSenden (previously unsend) has been in development for years now. Hosted on infrastructure by eplg.cloud/wireway.ch, we have a track history of hosting these services for free and at no privacy compromise (view the statistics section at wireway.ch).
Read the full answerYou do. Feature decisions run through a community vote modelled on Swiss direct democracy: any user can propose a feature, everyone votes on it, and when the team disagrees it has to put up a counter proposal for the community to vote on instead of quietly rejecting the idea.
Read the full answerYes! Mobile apps are in development and expected to be ready at release. Linux, macOS, iOS and Windows ship as a first wave, with Android following shortly after. Until then the web client works on every platform, mobile browsers included.
Read the full answerNo, every feature on senden is designed to keep data on senden. For our GIFs feature, we use gifli.pictures, a wireway.ch owned GIF platform.
